Whatever a community association’s situation, it’s important for homeowners and board members to realize the importance of a comprehensive security program. The old notion that “the better the neighborhood, the less the security concern’ is no longer appropriate. Every community needs to make security and safety a top priority.

ORLANDO - Police in Orlando say a 50-year-old man taking a firearms certification course was shot in the foot after the instructor's gun discharged.
The incident happened Saturday morning at a certification class for carrying concealed firearms.
The student, Robert Frauman Jr., was taken to Florida Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No further details were provided by authorities.
A classic sailing schooner has departed from the Florida Keys bound for earthquake-ravaged Haiti with more than 10 tons of relief supplies.
The 74-foot(22.5-meter)-long boat's cargo of food, water, medicine, tools and other supplies, donated by Keys residents and businesses, began the 650-mile (1,050-kilometer) voyage Saturday with seven crew members to a remote Haitian coastal village.

At least two gunmen struck shortly after 11:30 a.m. when the Triple D Security armored car pulled up to a Kroger store in the 6300 block of Telephone.

MIAMI -- A security guard at the Earlington Heights Metrorail Garage was shot and killed Sunday night after being confronted by two men, police said.
According to investigators, 60-year-old Chevor Wint was working his shift as an armed security guard at the garage, located at 2100 NW 41st St., when two men approached him shortly after 10 p.m. A confrontation ensued, during which Wint was shot several times.
