Applicants must complete the 28-hour Class G license training that includes classroom instruction and a firearms qualification. Next, applicants must submit to the Division of Licensing the Statewide Firearms License application. The applicant must have or be in the process of obtaining a Security D License or Private Investigator License to be eligible for the Class G Security License. Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply for the armed security license and be either a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident alien.
The Florida class G security license, requires 28 hours of classroom training by a licensed firearms instructor (K) at a licensed security school.

Legal Aspects of Use of Firearms
The security guard training classes are designed for security guards who will be working in an armed capacity and will provide a broad overview of legal issues that they should be aware of while working security guard services. It will address the technical aspects of the law to include Negligence, Liability, Florida Laws that govern security, F.S. 493, 776, 790, crimes, Use of Force and Deadly Force.
Firearms Safety and Marksmanship Training
Students will receive weapons safety training and learn the fundamentals of marksmanship. Additionally, students will learn how to load, unload, and speed reload a firearm, the 4-step draw, and how to clear a weapons malfunction (Immediate Action and Remedial Action). All our armed security guard training is hand-on practical exercises to get the student familiar with the Firearm through Dry-Fire exercises.
Firearms Qualification
The G license Florida requires students to qualify on the gun range by shooting a score of 168/240. Students must shoot a total of 144 rounds of ammunition for the initial g license.
Under Florida Laws, any security guard providing security guard services in an armed capacity must qualify with the caliber of firearm they are carrying on duty. The Statewide Firearms Class G license allows security guards to carry a .380, 9mm, .45, or ,40 cal. Semi-Automatic pistol, and or .38 or .357 caliber revolver.

- Long pants with strong belt – (i.e. jeans, duty or tactical pants) – *NO SHORTS OR SWEAT PANTS ALLOWED*
- Crew neck t-shirt, dress or polo shirt – *NO TANK TOPS OR LOW CUT SHIRTS ALLOWED*
- If you wear glasses, please bring them to class

*If you are bringing a handgun to the G license course, the weapon should be brought to the classroom unloaded and encased. All student weapons will be subjected to a safety inspection before the live-fire qualification.

G License Semi-Annual Renewal
The Class G License in Florida requires armed security and private investigators to qualify once a year to maintain the security class G license. This requires qualifying with the type of handgun that they carry on duty.
Whats Happens if I miss my annual 4-hour G recertification?
Failure to complete the annual class G recertification will disqualify students for Statewide Firearms License renewal, and they will be required by the State of Florida to complete the entire 28-hour G course.

To work armed security services in Florida, you must possess a security D license or be a licensed private investigator. The Florida G license is the required gun license to work armed security. It is illegal to carry a firearm in Florida while working as a:

You can carry concealed working armed guard security with your Security Class “D” License along with a Class “G” Firearms License on temporarily assigned duties. Security Officers can obtain a Florida Class G license if under 21 but cannot carry weapons concealed. The concealed is for personal gun carry, and you are limited to where you can have a firearm. The Security Armed License is not the same as a Concealed Permit and is under different Florida gun laws F.S. 790.
