How do I apply for a Florida D license and Armed Firearms G license?

Class D License

Students must complete a 40 Hr D security class at a licensed Florida (DS) security school.  The security training is broken down into 2 courses, the 24 Hour D Course (2 Days of training) & the 16 Hour D Course (an additional 2 Days of training) for a total of 40 Hours of security guard training.  Students must complete a 100-question security test for the 24 Hr D security course and a 75-question test for the 16 HR D security Course.   Security guards must achieve a passing grade of 75% or better to pass the Florida security class.  Students are allowed 1 retest.  Upon completion of the 2 unarmed security courses, students will receive a Invictus 40 HR D Course Certificate. 

Applicants will have to apply in person at the Division of Licensing (DOL) Regional Office or mail the application to the Division of Licensing (DOL) Headquarters in Tallahassee.  Applicants must summit the following documents to the DOL: D Course Application (Must be Notarized); FBI fingerprint card for background check; 1 passport photo, check or money or to the Division of Licensing for $87 and the 40Hr D course security training certificate.  Invictus includes at no charge to our students the following: Notarization of State Application, Fingerprinting of FBI card and 1 passport photo.

Class G License

Security officers and or Private Investigators must complete the 28 HR G Course (3 days of training), instructed by a licensed State of Florida Class K firearms instructor.   Students will learn the Florida gun laws 790, Use of Force 776 Laws, Security & Private Investigator Laws 493, and Florida Criminal Laws 775.  Students will learn firearms safety, fundamentals of marksmanship, 4 Step Draw, dry fire practice: loading, unloading, weapon malfunctions, how to clean the firearm.  Firearms students must pass a written State exam with a passing grade of 75% or better.   Students on the  final day of the armed security class must shoot a firearms G course range qualification of 148 rounds with a passing score: Min-168 points Max-240 points.  Security Guards and or Investigators Private will be given a DOL Statewide firearms certificate of proficiency.  

G course students Applicants will have to apply in person at the (DOL) Regional office or mail the application to the (DOL) Headquarters in Tallahassee.  Applicants must summit the following documents to the DOL: G Course Application (Must be Notarized); FBI fingerprint card for background check (Only if 6 months have passed since the D course application was summated); 1 passport photo, check or money or to the Division of Licensing for $112; Physical by a licensed Doctor and the 28 Hr G Course firearms certificate of proficiency.  Invictus includes at no charge to our Class G Course students the following: Notarization of State Application, Fingerprinting of FBI card, 1 passport photo, range fees, targets, ear & eye protection and targets. (Does not include gun rental or ammunition)

Can I complete the Florida Statewide Firearms Class G license training before I complete the  Class D security license?

Yes. You can participate in training in any order; however, the division of licensing will only issue a “G” license to someone who already holds a “D” license or Private Investigator license "Class C/CC".  You can also submit both the D & G license applications at once.

How long will my Florida security license be valid?

Licenses issued to security officers, private investigators either unarmed or armed are valid for a period of 2 years.  The class D license (Security), class G license (Statewide Firearms) and class C/CC (Private Investigator/PI Intern)

What time do the Florida security classes start?

All classes begin at 8:30 am unless otherwise noted on our training schedule.

What is the difference between the Florida 24 Hour “D” License Course and the 16 Hour “D” License Course?

The State of Florida requires 40 hours total of “D” license training in order to obtain a license. The 24 hour course is part I, the 16 Hour course is part II. You can obtain a temporary “D” license after you complete the full 40 hour course.  The State of Florida will No longer issue Temp D licenses after completion of the 24 Hr D after January 1st , 2012.

All confirmations will be sent to email address you registered with. Also check spam inbox of your email if you did not receive it.

Do I have to register in order to attend a FL secuirty course?

No. Walk-ins are always welcome.

What is the difference between the Florida  Security “D” License and the “G” License?

The “D” license is a security officer license. The “G” license is the statewide firearms license, which permits a security officer or private investigator to carry a firearm while on duty.

What is the difference between the Florida  Statewide Firearms license and a concealed weapon or firearm license?

The concealed weapon or firearm license is for personal carrying of a firearm only and does not apply to working in security capacity. The statewide firearms license is only valid while on duty and does not allow you to carry a firearm off duty.

What type of payment do you accept?

Do you offer Florida security class discounts?

We offer $10 discounts for the D & G License, and course bundle packages. We offer a discount if you register and pay online.  U.S Veterans receive Free the 24 Hour D Course.

What is included with security course FL prices?

- We include with the 24 Hour D course, your passport photo, fingerprints, notarization of state application ($30 in savings)
- 28 Hour G course includes passport photo, fingerprints, notarization of state application, range fees, targets.  Include concealed weapons certificate and passport photo and notarization of ccw application.
 

Can I bring my own ammunition?

Yes.  Do Not bring any ammunition to classroom only the range.

Can I bring my own firearm?

- Yes. Must be a 9mm or .380 semi-automatic, .38 or 357 caliber revolver.
- If you bring your own firearm, must also bring 2-3 magazines and magizine pouches.
- Or, you can rent a firearm from Invictus for $5. We offer 9mm semi-automatic and .38/357 revolver.

How can I check on the status of my Florida Class D license & Class G license application?

Applications will take approximately 7-10 business days to reach the Division of Licensing in Tallahassee. It will take approximately another 30 business days for your information to be entered into the DOL database.  Check your security, statewide firearms or other State of Florida licenses here.

How do I notify the Division about my name change?

Simply submit a written request and a copy of the legal document evidencing your name change to the Division of Licensing. You can have a revised license printed for a fee of $15, payable by check or money order to the Division of Licensing. If you prefer, you may keep your current license until it is time to renew. At time of renewal, remember to send your written request and a copy of the legal document evidencing your name change with your renewal application and we will issue your renewal license with your legal name.

How do I change my address information?

Section 493.6106(3) requires you to notify the Division of Licensing in writing within 10 days after your residence or mailing address changes. You can change your address online. Alternatively, you can submit your notification to us in writing at the following address:

The law does not require a licensee to obtain a replacement license after a change of address. You may continue to carry your current license until it expires. However, if you would like a revised license reflecting your new address, please submit a written request for a replacement license to the address above along with a personal check or money order made payable to the Division of Licensing in the amount of $15.00 AND a passport-type color photograph.

My Florida security license has expired. Can I renew it?

A license issued to an individual regulated by Chapter 493, Florida Statutes, can be renewed if it has not been expired for more than three months. A late fee equal to the amount of the license fee is required in addition to the renewal license fee. If the license has been expired for longer than three months, the former licensee must re-apply for a new license.

I paid for the Florida security training can I attend any course date?

Yes, If you pre-registered and paid online or at our office you can attend any course date within a 1 year period.

If I cant attend course does Invictus offer course refund?

Yes, We will provide you with a full refund if you can not attend training.

If I fail the Florida G course range qualification do I have to complete entire course and repay for training?

If a student does not successfully pass range qualification they will be invited back to day 2 & 3 of the G course for follow up training at no charge.  Students must pay for range fees and ammunition day of qualification.

I missed my annual Florida 4 Hour Recertification training for my G license, can I still renew my G license?

If a security officer or private investigator misses the annual 4 hour re-cert during the 2 year period of their license, State of Florida laws require that the security officer must complete the entire 28 hr class G course to reapply for renewal of the Statewide Firearms License. There is no exceptions to this requirement.  If a student has their 4 hr annual re-cert back dated by a K instructor they risk the chance of losing their license by the Division of Licensing.

I want to register and payonline but it says other or paypal, how do I summit my credit card for payment?

To pay online choose paypal, you do not have to have a paypal account.  Paypal is the Credit Card payment system for our online payments.  If you choose other it will just register you for the class and does not give students the online discount price.
